ChildLike intuition::

I love this idea- that inspiration can come from anywhere. A few seconds of visual bliss could be the inspiration for an entire collection. Innocence can be inspiration.
In youth imagination is inspiration. Imagination is inevitable because, for most kids, they have no inhibition. They're uncaged, flying free because they've yet to really experience getting up from a fall. The possibilities of conjuring ludicrous ideas are believable for them, they haven't matured into thinking different. Why can't we fly on brooms and live in castles entirely pink? For me, my draw towards children is their ability to believe. They believe effortlessly. These photos are derived from children's inspiration on paper. Somehow kids produce something adults cannot. As haphazard and unique as each drawing is, the Korean artist set out and collected a thousand drawings from children between five and seven years old.
He attempted to capture the essence and subject of the drawing into an environment.

Assignment Idea: Blind draw individually and create a space from 2d line drawing- or - with partners, one describes a picture and can see their partner drawing but the person drawing cannot see themselves. That drawing becomes the inspiration for the space.

MOBILE LIVING

With more and more Americans having to sleep in their cars, it is too bad that Toyota never put this into production. 1973 Toyota Station Wagon turns into RV.

Here are some great ideas of other people living mobile. From army inspired to RV pop-tents, Treehugger.com has a lot of resources for people living simply.

Living is.be combines the best of an RV (easily mobile) with the efficiency of a popup camper (folds down for less wind resistance) and the comfort of a multistorey townhouse. It even has a hot-tub sized bath on the upper level.

When one designs a boat, trailer, mobile home or RV, it can be fabulous test-beds for designers to show how one can live with less space, how to squeeze every cubic inch out. They also have to deal with many restrictions in weight, shape and dimension. They can also challenge our assumption that we have to live in a fixed location, when one might have a smaller footprint if we lived in smaller spaces and were not so tied down.

project sleepless

I came across these incredible bedsheets today and HAD to share. A group of fourteen students collaborated together and worked under Professor Ron Arad, from Royal College of Art's design product department and The Great Eastern Hotel, to make these. It sheds light on a different way of sleeping, where reading in bed is taken to a more unique level. The project is called SLEEPLESS and the design is by Tiago da Fonseca. After much searching I found the designer's official website where they're now selling these! For a pretty penny you can own one too, but for now we can just admire good design : )

From what I read, each sheet serves as a page and you're able to add or remove like you would pages in a book. Being a book lover, this was so grrreat :)

Cardboard Central

Our next project for our INDS class at SCAD continues working with conceptual diagrams. We have individually created a unique parti that assists as the concept for our models (mine can be seen in the previous posting). In Amsterdam they've designed their office made almost entirely out of cardboard. I thought this would be helpful for reference for our next phase. We are assigned to create a 3D model, an 8X8 box for study model, that will then be used at a 1/2 scale to create a 4' X 4' living space made entirely from cardboard.

Take a look at this!

I think this is such a great idea! Very unique.... To truly live wholly in this environment there is the utmost consciousness for your surrounding. The two gentleman sitting at the table makes me nervous they'd spill their drink (HA). I think this would be a harder problem to fix than just some water and a rag. Here's the link I found it at if anyone is interested to look further into this project.

Phase 4: Form, Space, Order

I attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (more colloquially known as SCAD) and for one of my studio classes we were to create a 3D model of our 2D partis (or diagrams). Here is both a form and space model for this project!

FORM:

This model utilizes the subtraction and addition of forms to it's structure. The forms themselves are enclosed, creating distinct spaces.

SPACE:
The space model, on the other hand, creates a more airy feel for the model. With the eye traveling through structures, it allows for a fluid circulation in and out of areas that is unattainable with the form model.

FINAL:
Mounted on 12'' X 12'' Gator Board
Materials were white bond paper or wood (this includes basal wood, sticks, limbs, and twigs)

Architecture Firm in Madrid

This is the most unique idea I've seen for an office space. In Spain, they've created such a peaceful working environment where they appear one with nature. Can you imagine such a serene environment?! Iwan Baan is the architect behind this innovative design. Here are some pictures gathered to show you how amazing this design really is -----

I'm IN LOVEE

Today's presentation on our analysis of a retail store (and my sketch of an element of the stack of luggage) reminded me how much I really do LOVE old luggage.

It's like people who collect rocks or err.... bottle caps? I don't know a good analogy, but most women go on shopping sprees to spend money on shoes.... My guilty pressure is the sick addiction to old leather bound tightly around a nice frame.
Anyhow, I stumbled upon this FANTASTIC website that recycles luggage into furniture The cite is called Recreate. They have some really great works on there, check it out! Here are some pictures of works I found doing this same thing.

And this amazinggg chair- I would love to have. This is what started the luggage find today, this chair by Katie Thompson. "South African interior/furniture designer Katie Thompson started creating a brilliantly imagined collection of recycled furniture last year called Recreate. In this range of products she marries antiques in unconventional ways to give new function to the already familiar items."
