Cardboard Central

Our next project for our INDS class at SCAD continues working with conceptual diagrams. We have individually created a unique parti that assists as the concept for our models (mine can be seen in the previous posting). In Amsterdam they've designed their office made almost entirely out of cardboard. I thought this would be helpful for reference for our next phase. We are assigned to create a 3D model, an 8X8 box for study model, that will then be used at a 1/2 scale to create a 4' X 4' living space made entirely from cardboard.

Take a look at this!

I think this is such a great idea! Very unique.... To truly live wholly in this environment there is the utmost consciousness for your surrounding. The two gentleman sitting at the table makes me nervous they'd spill their drink (HA). I think this would be a harder problem to fix than just some water and a rag. Here's the link I found it at if anyone is interested to look further into this project.

Phase 4: Form, Space, Order

I attend the Savannah College of Art & Design (more colloquially known as SCAD) and for one of my studio classes we were to create a 3D model of our 2D partis (or diagrams). Here is both a form and space model for this project!

FORM:

This model utilizes the subtraction and addition of forms to it's structure. The forms themselves are enclosed, creating distinct spaces.

SPACE:
The space model, on the other hand, creates a more airy feel for the model. With the eye traveling through structures, it allows for a fluid circulation in and out of areas that is unattainable with the form model.

FINAL:
Mounted on 12'' X 12'' Gator Board
Materials were white bond paper or wood (this includes basal wood, sticks, limbs, and twigs)

Architecture Firm in Madrid

This is the most unique idea I've seen for an office space. In Spain, they've created such a peaceful working environment where they appear one with nature. Can you imagine such a serene environment?! Iwan Baan is the architect behind this innovative design. Here are some pictures gathered to show you how amazing this design really is -----

I'm IN LOVEE

Today's presentation on our analysis of a retail store (and my sketch of an element of the stack of luggage) reminded me how much I really do LOVE old luggage.

It's like people who collect rocks or err.... bottle caps? I don't know a good analogy, but most women go on shopping sprees to spend money on shoes.... My guilty pressure is the sick addiction to old leather bound tightly around a nice frame.
Anyhow, I stumbled upon this FANTASTIC website that recycles luggage into furniture The cite is called Recreate. They have some really great works on there, check it out! Here are some pictures of works I found doing this same thing.

And this amazinggg chair- I would love to have. This is what started the luggage find today, this chair by Katie Thompson. "South African interior/furniture designer Katie Thompson started creating a brilliantly imagined collection of recycled furniture last year called Recreate. In this range of products she marries antiques in unconventional ways to give new function to the already familiar items."
